Asif Sees Vast Potential for Sports in the Hill Tracts

Asif Akbar, renowned singer and Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), believes that there is immense potential for sports in the hill districts of Bangladesh. However, he emphasises the need for action to unlock this potential. According to him, if the young talents from the mountainous regions are identified and nurtured, the sports sector in the country will become even more vibrant.

On Wednesday, Asif visited the Bandarban District Stadium to inspect the overall situation. During his visit, he engaged in discussions with local athletes, organisers, and officials about the challenges and opportunities for sports in the hill districts.

BCB Director Asif remarked, “The hill regions have a wealth of untapped potential in sports. To realise this potential, we need to identify the local challenges and work towards solutions.” He also noted that steps would be taken to bring the young talents from the hill areas onto the national stage.

While football in Bangladesh still sees indigenous players from the hills representing the national team, there is notable female participation from the hill regions in women’s football. However, in cricket, players from the hill districts are rarely seen. Asif expressed hope that in the future, the hill tracts will play a significant role in enriching the country’s cricket scene.
