Tanveer Sangha Returns to Australia’s T20 Squad as Zampa Steps Aside

Australia’s young leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has earned a call-up to the T20 squad after nearly two years, replacing veteran Adam Zampa, who has opted out of the India series for personal reasons.

Zampa, Australia’s leading T20 wicket-taker, has taken leave to stay with his pregnant wife as the couple expects their second child.

He had earlier missed the first ODI in Perth due to travel complications but made a strong comeback in the second ODI in Adelaide, where he was named Player of the Match.

Cricket Australia (CA) named 23-year-old Sangha as Zampa’s replacement. The young spinner made his T20 debut in 2023, claiming four wickets in his very first match against South Africa. However, after playing seven matches that year, he was dropped from the team.

Sangha’s last T20 appearance came against India in December 2023. The Sydney Thunder leg-spinner will now be aiming for a successful return on home soil against the same opposition.

The five-match T20 series between Australia and India begins on Wednesday in Canberra.
