The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is approaching its upcoming elections scheduled for 7 June 2026, with a significant number of director positions set to be decided without a vote. On Friday, the final day for the submission of nomination papers, the board’s election commission received a total of 33 nominations across three distinct categories.
According to the Election Returning Officer, Mohammad Taherul Huq Chouhan, multiple candidates are poised to be elected unopposed, provided their paperwork passes scrutiny. An institutional source close to the developments indicated that despite the presence of nominal opponents in certain positions, genuine electoral contests are unlikely to materialize, suggesting some candidacies may purely be for appearances.
Nomination Breakdown and Uncontested Winners
The returning officer confirmed the receipt of 14 nominations in Category-1, 18 nominations in Category-2, and a single nomination in Category-3. Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, representing Chittagong University, was the sole individual to submit papers for Category-3. Barring any technical discrepancies in his documentation, he will be declared elected unopposed.
Similarly, four directors from the District and Divisional Sports Associations under Category-1 are confirmed to secure their board seats without a contest. The verified list of these uncontested regional directors is presented below:
| Candidate Name | Representing Region / Division | Institutional Affiliation | Electoral Status |
| Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir | Category-3 (University) | Chittagong University | Elected Unopposed |
| Mir Shakrul Alam Shimanto | Rajshahi Division | Bogra District Sports Association | Elected Unopposed |
| Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury | Sylhet Division | Sylhet Divisional Sports Association | Elected Unopposed |
| Mirza Faisal Amin | Rangpur Division | Thakurgaon District Sports Association | Elected Unopposed |
Regional Candidates and Category-2 Scrutiny
In the remaining regional brackets of Category-1, multi-candidate submissions were recorded, though final selections will depend on the official verification process. For the Dhaka Division—where two directors will be elected—nominations were submitted by Sayeed Bin Zaman (Dhaka Divisional Sports Association), SM Abdullah Al Fuad (Jamalpur District Sports Association), and Jasimuddin Khan (Gopalganj District Sports Association).
From the Chittagong Division, former national chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu (Chittagong District Sports Association), Moinuddin Chowdhury (Lakshmipur District Sports Association), and Shariful Islam (Feni District Sports Association) filed their papers. The Khulna Division likewise saw three aspirants for two seats: Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, and Mohammad Abdus Salam. Conversely, the Barisal Division, which is allocated a single director seat, received two nominations, filed by Muntasir Alam Chowdhury of Bhola and Mizanur Rahman of the Barisal Divisional setup.
Meanwhile, Category-2, which primarily comprises club representatives, saw 18 nominations submitted for scrutiny. Addressing media queries during Friday’s press conference regarding Shahriar Hossain Bidyut, the returning officer clarified a constitutional issue. Although Bidyut had initially collected a nomination form, he did not submit it, as he lacked the institutional qualifications required to contest under Category-3 according to the current BCB constitution. The final verified list of eligible candidates is scheduled for immediate publication by the central bank of cricket’s regulatory commission.
