The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is currently being overseen by an interim administrative structure following a decision taken on 7 April by the National Sports Council (NSC). The NSC dissolved the previous BCB board, which had been led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, and appointed an 11-member ad hoc committee for a period of three months.
Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal was named as the head of this committee. The principal responsibility assigned to the interim body is to organise and conduct the next BCB election within the stipulated three-month timeframe.
A key administrative step in this process is an आगामी board meeting scheduled for Sunday, 3 May. According to Tamim Iqbal, this meeting is expected to determine the timeline and procedural framework for the forthcoming election. The decision taken at this meeting will be central to advancing the transition towards an elected board.
Tamim Iqbal had previously declared his intention to contest in the upcoming election. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, 30 April, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, he reaffirmed that position and clarified that he has not considered resigning from his current role ahead of the electoral process.
He stated: “I have not personally considered resignation. I will certainly participate in the election. Whatever is approved in the constitution, I will follow that. I have not thought about resigning from the ad hoc committee. From the very first day, I have said that I will take part in the election.”
In addition to confirming his candidacy, Tamim addressed concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process. He expressed confidence that the election conducted under the current committee would meet expectations of fairness. He said: “We have spoken a great deal about fair elections. I hope that under our administration, there will, Inshallah, be a fair election.”
The developments reflect an ongoing administrative transition within the BCB, with the interim committee tasked with ensuring continuity and governance until a new elected board assumes responsibility.
