Bangladesh’s promising opening batter Parvez Hossain Emon has returned home ahead of schedule after sustaining a shoulder injury while featuring in the Pakistan Super League. The injury forced him to withdraw from the remainder of the tournament, despite initially being expected to remain available until 21 April.
The young left-handed opener, representing Lahore Qalandars, picked up the setback during the course of the competition. Although he underwent an initial scan in Pakistan, a more comprehensive medical assessment was carried out upon his return to Bangladesh under the supervision of the medical unit of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
According to the medical team’s preliminary evaluation, there is no indication of any serious structural damage or long-term concern. The injury has been classified primarily as a mild muscular strain in the shoulder region, resulting in temporary discomfort and restricted movement. As a precautionary measure, he has been placed on complete rest, with all activities involving shoulder strain strictly suspended.
BCB chief physician Debashis Chowdhury stated that the prognosis remains positive, with no alarming findings emerging from the scans. He expressed optimism that, through a structured rehabilitation programme, the batter could make a swift recovery and return to full fitness. The rehabilitation process is expected to include physiotherapy sessions, progressive mobility exercises, and gradual reintroduction to batting practice.
The planned recovery pathway begins with pain management and controlled rest, followed by light mobility drills. Strength-conditioning exercises targeting the shoulder muscles will be introduced in later stages to reduce the risk of recurrence. Medical staff believe that, if recovery progresses as expected, he could return to light training within approximately one week.
Prior to his injury, Emon’s performances in the PSL showed glimpses of his aggressive batting potential, albeit with inconsistency. His time at the crease for Lahore Qalandars can be summarised as follows:
| Match | Runs | Performance Summary |
|---|---|---|
| First match | 12 | Dismissed early after a brief stay |
| Second match | 14 | Showed promise but failed to convert start |
| Third match | 45 | Explosive 19-ball innings featuring five sixes |
The standout performance came in his third appearance, where he struck a rapid 45 off just 19 deliveries, including five towering sixes, highlighting his natural power-hitting ability. Unfortunately, the injury curtailed his momentum and prevented him from building on that breakthrough innings.
Looking ahead, both the coaching and medical staff remain hopeful that he will recover in time to be considered for upcoming international commitments, including a T20 series against New Zealand. The emphasis remains on a careful and disciplined rehabilitation process to ensure a full and sustainable return to competitive cricket.
