Ireland Cancels Bangladesh Summer Tour

Cricket Ireland (CI) has confirmed the cancellation of the Bangladesh cricket team’s scheduled tour in July–August 2026, which was to comprise three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The decision, reportedly due to logistical challenges and financial constraints, was first highlighted by ESPN Cricinfo, although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to receive formal notification from the Irish board.

An official from Cricket Ireland commented, “There were longstanding uncertainties surrounding this series. Organising international fixtures requires significant logistical and financial resources, and unfortunately, we are unable to stage the Bangladesh tour this summer.”

Bangladesh had planned to follow up their home series against Australia—three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled for June—with the Ireland tour. Key players such as Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were expected to feature prominently in the Irish series. However, the newly released 2026 summer schedule of Cricket Ireland shows no trace of the Bangladesh fixtures, confirming the cancellation.

The cancellation leaves Bangladesh without an international series during the July–August window, meaning players will wait approximately six weeks for the next assignment: the away series against India.

Cricket Ireland, however, maintains a busy international programme, including a four-day Test against New Zealand in May, a two-match T20I series in India in June, and an expanded ODI series against Afghanistan, which has been increased in response to the Bangladesh tour cancellation.

The Irish board’s financial and logistical constraints are cited as the primary reason for this adjustment. Hosting an international team involves significant expenses, from venue preparation and security arrangements to travel and accommodation, particularly when balancing concurrent series commitments.

For Bangladesh, the immediate impact is a temporary hiatus from international cricket following the Australia series at home. Meanwhile, Cricket Ireland continues to prioritise a full summer schedule, ensuring competitive fixtures for their players and maintaining momentum in the international cricket calendar despite the setback.
