In a dramatic statement, Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter Enamul Haque Vijay has declared that he will no longer participate in professional cricket until his reputation is fully restored. Vijay’s comments come after a long-standing controversy stemming from the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where his name appeared on a list of players under suspicion of match-fixing.
As a result of the allegations, Vijay, along with several other players, was barred from participating in the 2026 BPL. While it was initially assumed that he could still play in other domestic tournaments, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not allow him to feature in the recently concluded Adomyo Bangladesh T20 Cup, nor in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) One-Day tournament.
Speaking to journalists during the BCL final at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Tuesday, 3 March, the 33-year-old cricketer said, “I have always played cricket for honour, not money. I want my reputation reinstated. Until my honour is returned, I will not play.”
Vijay clarified that the previous allegations against him were completely unfounded. “The situation with me was entirely wrong. I was on the suspicion list, but that issue has now been resolved. I am eligible to play all forms of cricket, but only when the BCB publicly confirms that I am not guilty,” he added.
Having represented Bangladesh in 77 international matches across all formats, Vijay stressed the urgency of a formal statement from cricket authorities: “Until the top officials of BCB restore my honour and publicly acknowledge that I am innocent, I will not step onto the field. If I did anything wrong, show me the evidence. Enough is enough. It is time to decide—either I have committed an offence or I have not. I cannot remain suspended indefinitely.”
