Despite Bangladesh’s absence from the current T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has moved swiftly to ensure its premier athletes remain match-fit and competitive. The board has officially launched the “Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026,” a high-stakes tri-series featuring three formidable squads. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap in the international calendar while providing a platform for both established icons and emerging stars to showcase their prowess under the floodlights of Mirpur.
A High-Stakes Domestic Showcase
The tournament will be contested by three teams: Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI, and Duranto XI. The financial incentives are as significant as the sporting ones, with a total prize pool and match-fee fund amounting to approximately 25 million BDT.
Leadership has been strategically assigned to represent the various tiers of Bangladeshi cricket. Litton Das, the national T20 captain, will lead Dhumketu XI—a squad heavily composed of those originally earmarked for World Cup duties. Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto takes the reins of Durbar XI, while the 2020 Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, Akbar Ali, has been entrusted with the youthful and explosive Duranto XI.
Tactical Leadership and Coaching
The coaching staff comprises a “who’s who” of Bangladeshi cricketing history. The legendary Mohammad Salahuddin joins forces with former captain Mohammad Ashraful to steer Dhumketu XI. Durbar XI will be guided by the experienced Mizanur Rahman and Tushar Imran, while Duranto XI benefits from the strategic partnership of Hannan Sarkar and Rajin Saleh.
Match Scheduling and Spectator Access
The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium will host all fixtures. To transform the matches into a true festival of cricket, each day will commence with a vibrant cultural programme at 4:00 PM, followed by the main event at 6:00 PM.
