The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that spectators who purchased tickets for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches scheduled in Dhaka on 15 January will receive a full refund. The matches, originally set to take place yesterday, were cancelled following an ultimatum issued by players in protest over the actions of BCB director M. Najmul Islam.
Thousands of fans had arrived at the stadium, eager to watch the matches live, only to be met with disappointment when the games did not take place. In response to the cancellation and the resulting frustration, the BCB moved quickly to ensure that ticket holders would not incur financial loss.
In an official statement released late on 16 January, the board confirmed that all tickets purchased for 15 January’s matches are eligible for a full refund. The BCB has also clarified the rescheduled dates for the affected matches:
| Original Match Date | Rescheduled Date | Ticket Policy |
|---|---|---|
| 15 January | 16 January | Ticket holders from 15 Jan can use the same ticket |
| 16 January | 17 January | Separate tickets required for new date |
| 17 January | 18 January | Separate tickets required for new date |
Fans who had purchased tickets for 16 January’s match can still use their tickets for the rescheduled match on 16 January. However, spectators wishing to attend the rescheduled matches on 17 and 18 January will need to purchase new tickets.
To claim a refund for 15 January’s cancelled matches, spectators are instructed to visit the official ticketing website at www.gobcbticket.com.bd/en or contact the BCB ticket helpline at +880 9606-501231. The board has urged fans to process refunds promptly to ensure smooth handling.
The BCB’s swift response has been welcomed by cricket enthusiasts across the country, who expressed relief that their expenses would be reimbursed and that they still have the opportunity to watch the rescheduled games. Officials have emphasised that the board remains committed to resolving scheduling disruptions and maintaining transparency for ticket holders.
The disruption comes as a rare instance in BPL history where administrative disputes directly affected the match schedule, highlighting the delicate balance between governance and players’ concerns in professional cricket.
