Bangladesh defeated Ireland in a two-match home Test series last month, with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam taking a total of 13 wickets. For his outstanding performance, he has been nominated as ICC Player of the Month for November.
The ICC website notes that “Taijul has played a pivotal role in securing victories at home, establishing himself as a reliable match-winner. In the series against Ireland, he surpassed Shakib Al Hasan as Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker.” Taijul now has a total of 250 wickets in 57 Test matches.
The nomination list also features South Africa’s Simon Harmer and Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz. Harmer claimed 17 wickets in a two-match Test series in India, while Nawaz took 10 wickets in Pakistan’s home tri-nation T20 series.
In women’s cricket, nominees for November include India’s Shafali Verma, Thailand’s Thipacha Puthawang, and UAE’s Ayesha Ooza. Shafali scored 87 runs in India’s World Cup final. Thipacha took a joint highest 15 wickets in the Emerging Nations Trophy, while Ayesha scored 187 runs across seven T20 matches.
This is the third time a Bangladeshi cricketer has been recognised as ICC Player of the Month, following Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Previously, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim had received the award. Taijul’s success adds fresh momentum to Bangladesh’s cricket achievements.
