Sri Lanka Cricket Pledges 300m Rupees for Cyclone Victims

Cyclone Ditva has caused extensive destruction throughout Sri Lanka, triggering severe floods and landslides that have resulted in the deaths of at least 474 people, while nearly four hundred others remain unaccounted for. To aid those affected, the government has introduced the Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund, and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a donation of 300 million rupees to support this effort.

In a statement released today, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board said that, as the national team’s representative institution, it is committed to fulfilling its responsibility towards the country by offering this assistance. The board added that the donation would bolster the government’s emergency relief operations and contribute to the rapid restoration of essential public services in the disaster-hit areas.

The statement also highlighted that the initiative seeks to reinforce the government’s efforts to rebuild the lives of people affected by the cyclone.

Previously, Sri Lankan cricketers had confirmed that all proceeds from their Pakistan tour would be directed to the country’s flood victims.

As part of the continued support initiative, the national team’s head coach, Sanath Jayasuriya, said,
‘The situation in the country is extremely grave. We are profoundly distressed. We are contributing our match fees and all income from the Pakistan tour to assist the flood-affected. We must confront this difficult time together.’
