Bangladesh national cricket team veteran Mushfiqur Rahim has been stranded in Saudi Arabia while returning home after performing the sacred Umrah pilgrimage. The experienced batsman had departed last Saturday with the intention of returning to Dhaka, but his flight was cancelled unexpectedly due to security concerns at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport.
Mushfiqur was scheduled to travel on Emirates Airlines flight EK 0806 via Dubai. However, the flight was forced to return to Jeddah shortly after take-off, leaving him and thousands of other passengers stranded. In a post on social media, Mushfiqur described the tense situation:
“This morning we departed Jeddah for Dubai on flight EK 0806. However, due to ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, the flight was brought back to Jeddah. I am currently here with thousands of other passengers. Only Allah knows when and how we will reach Dhaka. Please keep us in your prayers.”
Bangladesh’s State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, has assured the public that Mushfiqur is safe and that his return is being closely monitored. He stated:
“I am personally overseeing the situation and have already spoken to Mushfiqur Rahim. In consultation with our cricket board, we hope he will be able to return to Bangladesh tomorrow morning.”
The minister further highlighted that the government continues to provide full support to other Bangladeshi citizens and athletes stranded abroad due to unexpected travel disruptions. He extended his best wishes for the safe return of all affected nationals.
